The Senior Prefect Team for 2026 Welcome You to LRGS
Head of School Owen is leading the Senior Prefect Team for 2026-27 with four Deputy Heads: Lily, Cian, Yituneh and Eva.
On taking up his new role, Owen said: “It is a real honour to be able to welcome you to the sixth form at Lancaster Royal Grammar School. Along with the rest of the senior leadership team, I look forward to meeting you all in September and to getting to know you throughout the coming year.
Here at LRGS there are so many opportunities available for you to explore your interests, and prepare for your next steps. As well as our strong academic history, we have something for everyone outside the curriculum and my advice is to hit the ground running in September. Regardless of whether you are an existing student at LRGS or arriving new to the sixth form as I was last year, LRGS will challenge you and bring the best out in you. The school combines pushing us academically with supporting us fully throughout our time here and I hope that you are as happy here as I am.
I moved here from North Cumbria at the beginning of the sixth form looking for new challenges. The idea of moving schools was daunting but the staff worked really hard to keep us busy right from the start and within a few weeks, life here had become natural and fun. I find that wherever I go I meet interesting, thoughtful and kind people to talk to.
This year, Yituneh, Eva, Cian, Lily and I will work hard to encourage everyone in the school to build an open school community that provides opportunities for everyone. Whatever you do or whoever you are, you are welcome and you will have a good time here. We really look forward to you joining us in September and we are excited for the year to come."
Deputy Head with responsibility for Pupil Voice, Cian said:
"Over the past six years at LRGS, I have gained a huge amount both academically and personally and I have thoroughly enjoyed every part of my time here at school. The wide range of opportunities available, particularly through sports, CCF and other extracurricular activities, has allowed me to develop confidence, leadership skills and resilience, while also creating some of my most memorable experiences. Being involved in these activities has not only strengthened my ability to work as part of a team but has also helped me grow as an individual outside of the classroom.
LRGS has always been a welcoming and supportive environment for me, where I have been able to build strong friendships with other students and develop positive relationships with teachers. These have played a significant role in shaping who I am today, both in terms of my character and my approach to challenges. The encouragement and support I have received throughout my time here at LRGS have helped me to push myself and make the most of every opportunity.
Being responsible for Student Voice, I take on the role of representing the views of pupils across the school and acting as a link between students and staff. This involves gathering feedback, contributing to discussions on how the school can continue to improve, and working alongside others to ensure that student opinions are taken seriously and acted upon where possible. I am keen to promote an inclusive environment where all students feel confident to share their ideas and know that their voices matter and can make a difference.
I am really looking forward to the year ahead and the opportunities it will bring. I am excited to continue working with both students and staff, to help build on the strong sense of community at LRGS, and to play a part in making the school experience as positive and rewarding as possible for everyone."
Deputy Head with responsibility for Operations, Yituneh said:
"There is so much to love about LRGS – be it the stimulating discussions with teachers, the variety of extracurricular activities you can dive head first into or simply hanging out with friends. As one of the oldest schools in the country, LRGS is steeped in history and tradition, yet it remains a vibrant hub of united interests, intellectual vigour and community, where every pupil is valued and fellowship can be found around every corner. The school does a great job of helping students on their way to success in later life, but it is far more than just a stepping stone. It is an opportunity for challenge, for growth, and for giving it your all."
Deputy Head with responsibility for Welfare, Eva said:
"As an external student joining LRGS in September, I have found the school environment to be incredibly welcoming and inclusive. It has been a wonderful experience joining this school and I am very grateful to have been given this opportunity as Head of Welfare.
Joining this school as an external student has given me a unique perspective, which I believe will help me within this role. The welcoming atmosphere made a big difference to me when I first arrived and has made me realise how important it is for new students and already existing students to feel comfortable and supported within their school. Because of this, one of my main aims is to make transitions through school as easy as they can be with the support of myself, other members of the team and the staff.
LRGS already offers so much to students with all the clubs, societies and sports that are available. Joining groups such as these can be immensely helpful for students to be able to grow in confidence, enlarge social groups and overall increase their wellbeing. I, personally, have involved myself in sporting groups such as netball and girls' rugby. Both clubs have allowed me to widen my connections and increase my confidence within school through the actual sport and social events that the staff arrange for outside of school. I feel this shows how much LRGS is committed to making the school a friendly and supportive environment.
Overall, my aim as Head of Welfare is to make the school a kind and welcoming place for students that need help in any way to feel comfortable enough to be able to get the support they are looking for. If any student has any worries or queries, myself or other members of the head team will always be available to get in contact with."
Deputy Head of Charities and Events, Lily said:
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent LRGS as part of the Head Prefect team. Even in my relatively short time at the school, I have felt welcomed and fully integrated into student life, and I hope to help ensure that others leave with equally positive experiences that they can carry into their future.
LRGS offers a unique range of opportunities to challenge and develop yourself beyond the classroom. I encourage all students to get involved in what interests them, and to be open to discovering something new. While the school is academically rigorous, it also provides students with valuable life skills and helps us grow as individuals. Since joining, I have enjoyed being part of girls’ rugby and attending societies such as Medsoc. However, the most impactful experience for me has been joining the CCF, which has given me skills and opportunities I would not have otherwise had. Taking advantage of these extracurriculars allows students not only to grow personally, but also to contribute positively to the school community.
As Head of Events and Charities, a key focus for me is student input. I want to ensure that everyone feels able to share their ideas so that whole-school events are enjoyable and inclusive for all. While tradition plays an important role at LRGS, with events such as the Set Run, I am also keen to introduce new ideas that build on what we already have. More importantly, I hope students can gain meaningful experiences from these events and carry the skills they develop into the future.
I am excited for the year ahead and for the opportunity to strengthen our sense of school pride and identity. I particularly look forward to seeing all students represented in events, especially during the Lenten charities term. Above all, I want students to make the most of their time at LRGS, guided by our motto “Praesis ut Prosis”, and to give back to the school community.
I hope that students see me and the rest of the Head Prefect team as approachable and supportive, and feel confident coming to us with ideas or questions. I look forward to welcoming new students and seeing our school community continue to grow over the coming year."
