Lancaster Royal Grammar School is arranged over the upper site and lower site.
The upper site includes the Cricket Pavilion and pitches benefitting from the backdrop of the Ashton Memorial in Wiliamson Park and offering incredible views across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland hills. It is also the location for the Design and Technology Centre, the Science centres, boarding accommodation, Maths and English classrooms, ICT suites, as well as; Wyresdale House, our centre for pastoral care, and the Medical Centre.
The main school reception, staff room, Food Technology and the Cafe are located in the modern 'City View' complex, all within the upper site, alongside the Dining Hall and the International Building (IB). IB is home to our Art studios, Chaplaincy, Religious Studies, Business and Economics rooms and the InspirUs programme.
The lower site is made up of some of the most historic buildings including; Old School, housing the school Library, Sixth Form Centre, Drama Studios and teaching rooms. Old School House is a Grade II listed building, formerly the Headmasters house, now used as the Development Office with formal rooms for holding meetings and events. New Building dates back to 1929 and includes the Assembly Hall and teaching rooms. The lower site also has boarding accommodation, the school General Office at Lee House, the Sports Hall, Combined Cadet Force, the Gymnasium and Swimming Pool and the Music studios and Recital Room.
At Lancaster Royal Grammar School we regularly let our school facilities to a variety of organisations, from locally-based community groups, who use our teaching rooms at weekends, to national and international institutions, who make use of our residential facilities during the school holidays.
There are some vacancies for external hire of the LRGS Sports Hall on weekday evenings. Open during the year for 5-a-side football groups, etc. If your group is interested in hiring the Sports Hall please contact Kim Taylor at email@example.com for details of current availability and prices.
What we can offer
We are situated in the historic city of Lancaster in North Lancashire, close to the Lake District and Morecambe Bay. We are within easy reach of the M6 motorway (15 minutes) and close to major rail links (2.5 hours to London, Glasgow and Edinburgh) and international airports (1.5 hours to Manchester and Liverpool airports). The school is situated next to the picturesque Williamson Park, with its landmark Ashton Memorial, and is based in extensive grounds, split over two sites. Some school buildings date from the Victorian era, while others, such as our most recent boarding accommodation, are just a few years old.
We can offer use of our teaching rooms (including music, art, technology and food technology), the assembly hall, swimming pool, sports hall and pitches for after school and weekend use. For those looking for residential accommodation during school holidays, we can provide state-of-the-art facilities, with a choice of dormitory and single, en-suite rooms. We can provide access to the 350 seated Dining Hall and Cafe if required.
Each group's requirements are dealt with on an individual basis. The details of each booking are tailored to match the needs of the organisation. We respond fully to all requests, ranging from specific catering requirements to the allocation of rooms and facilities.
