The Senior Prefect Team for 2025 Welcome You to LRGS
Head of School Edward is leading the Senior Prefect Team for 2025-26 with four Deputy Heads: Joe, Jess, Toby and Leila.
On taking up his new role, Edward said: “It is an absolute pleasure for me to be able to offer a welcome to all the new students who are joining Lancaster Royal Grammar School this September. Joining LRGS in September is no doubt a bit intimidating, but I hope very much that it is an exciting prospect for everyone. Through the work of our amazing staff, encouraging the care of our brilliant students, it's a remarkable time in the school calendar, when the LRGS community comes together in order to support and guide you on your journey, encouraging you to confidently be you.
My last 6 years at LRGS have truly been amazing, providing me with no end of opportunities, be it through the sports tours of Rugby at Rosslyn Park and cricket in Sri Lanka, or walking the high peaks of the Scottish Highlands on D of E. These experiences are what have helped me be the person I am today and are amongst the reasons I would recommend this amazing school to anyone. LRGS prides itself on its wide range of extracurricular activities balanced harmoniously with real academic opportunity and achievement, from cricket on the Douthwaite to the Medical Society at lunchtime; here at LRGS there is truly something for everyone.
In the coming year, whilst I’m Head of School, I hope to help you make the experience of being a pupil at LRGS as fulfilling as possible. I want to encourage all pupils to get involved in extracurricular and academic activities as these enable you to become brilliant young adults, living up to the school motto through leading and serving your community.
I can’t wait to see you all in September. I hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am. Please, if you ever have any worries, feel free to come and speak to me or one of my team."
Deputy Head with responsibility for Pupil Voice, Leila said:
"If you described the person I am today to the person I was before coming to LRGS I wouldn't have believed you.
Starting somewhere new always comes with the feeling of being unprepared and well out of your depth but you should never let those nerves prevent you from taking the next step. Coming to LRGS was a massive step out of my comfort zone which I hadn't fully accepted until I was there on the first day looking for someone I recognised. As time passed, I made friends and started joining the various clubs and societies the school has to offer: netball, law society, med soc, and many others.
I shortly came to realise that LRGS is truly a welcoming environment which prioritises its students' well-being greatly. I had support available in only an email away and many friendly faces I knew I could turn to. As I began building my confidence, I was introduced to the leadership roles - something old me would have never even considered. Taking my own advice, I surprised myself by applying and even more when I got it.
As Student Voice, it’s my responsibility to represent the voice of each individual and make an effort to listen and act upon the issues raised to me by the student body. Giving back to the school in this way has been incredibly fulfilling especially when the school has done so much for me. It’s my aim to continue on the work from the previous head of school team by ensuring everyone always feels as heard and supported as I did."
Deputy Head with responsibility for Operations, Toby said:
"There is so much to love about LRGS – be it the stimulating discussions with teachers, the variety of extracurricular activities you can dive head first into or simply hanging out with friends. As one of the oldest schools in the country, LRGS is steeped in history and tradition, yet it remains a vibrant hub of united interests, intellectual vigour and community, where every pupil is valued and fellowship can be found around every corner. The school does a great job of helping students on their way to success in later life, but it is far more than just a stepping stone. It is an opportunity for challenge, for growth, and for giving it your all."
Deputy Head with responsibility for Welfare, Jess said:
"Since joining LRGS in September, I have felt truly welcomed and at home in the Sixth Form. I’m incredibly proud to have been given this opportunity, and I hope to give back by helping other students have as positive an experience as I’ve had.
While LRGS is rightly known for its high academic standards, I believe it’s equally important to uphold strong values of welfare and wellbeing. I want to help ensure that LRGS continues to be an inclusive, supportive, and safe environment—where every pupil feels able to learn, grow, and work together with others in a spirit of cooperation and respect.
One of the things that makes LRGS so special is the wide range of extracurricular opportunities on offer. Whether it’s sport, trips, or clubs, these activities allow students to explore new interests, develop valuable skills, and build lasting friendships. Getting involved is a brilliant way to boost confidence, relieve stress, and make the most of your time at school. I encourage all students to embrace these opportunities—not just to enhance their school experience, but also to support their wellbeing and personal development.
In my short time here, I’ve already had the chance to represent the school in netball, rugby, and rounders, as well as go on the ski trip to Austria—an unforgettable experience. These activities have not only been incredibly fun but have also helped me feel more connected to the school community. I truly believe that LRGS has a club, society, or sport for everyone. And if not—there’s always the opportunity to start something new and make it your own. That’s what I love most about LRGS: the possibilities are endless.
Alongside these fantastic opportunities, the Sixth Form Welfare Team plays an important role in supporting younger students with any worries, questions, or problems they may have. My main goal this year is to help foster a culture of kindness, communication, and mutual support across the school. School is so much more enjoyable when we look out for one another—and that’s exactly the kind of environment I want to help create".
Deputy Head of Charities and Events, Joe said:
"It is such a privilege to serve LRGS as a senior prefect and being able to contribute to the school experience of younger pupils. My six years here have truly prepared me for the professional world and instilled into me the intrinsic values that LRGS students thrive on. I endeavour to encourage students to join LRGS’S wide range and unique selection of clubs and societies that will allow pupils to enjoy their school experience. For me, I have been a part of the LRGS choir, this has moulded my memories of the school and those who I surround myself with. LRGS is academically rigorous, however the pressure exerted on pupils is done in such a way that boosts self-esteem which for me has ultimately shaped my work ethic.
As the Head of Events and Charities I am very excited to continue our long-established tradition of charity fundraising. Most importantly, my goal is to highlight the values and skills that you will gain from our charity push, and the opportunity of having an experience of charities creates a personal motivation. It is important to not only focus on how much you raise, but rather how you can transfer the service and capability you have acquired during the process which you can then apply to your professional career and academic success.
Our school aims to lead and serve the community, inspiring our motto ‘Praesis ut Prosis’ that should influence every student decision. This transfers over to my responsibility of organising and delegating whole school events, and it is important to me that pupils have as much input on their school experience as possible, so come to me with any ideas that you may have. Our wide range of cultural, dramatic and sporting events throughout the year are there to ensure each pupil is represented. Tradition is deeply rooted in LRGS, and throughout a student’s time here they add their own branch which engraves them into the Lancastrian lineage.
We encourage pupils to see us as a bridge between the faculty and the student body and use us to shape your experience. I look forward to welcoming everyone to LRGS this year".
