Contribute to Giving Day

The inaugural LRGS Giving Day will take place on Wednesday 24th May 2023.  We aim to raise £75,000 for the Upper Courts appeal.

Giving Day is a 24-hour period when everyone in the LRGS community can contribute to the school’s ongoing success. The proceeds of Giving Day 2023 will go towards a new sports facility on the Upper Courts.  The refurbishment of the Upper Courts will include: resurfacing with an all-weather multi-sport surface, railings, new sporting equipment and storage.  These new facilities will ensure that our students can participate in a range of activities during PE and Games lessons and enjoy the best possible learning experience.  The Upper Courts are also used by large numbers of day and boarding pupils at break and lunchtimes, and for after school activities including CCF parades.

We are aware that this is a challenging time for families; the key is not how much you give but that you participate. Our aim is to involve the whole school community in this project which will in turn benefit the entire school.

Wednesday 24th May is also the date of the Friends' Supper Run which will be an opportunity for many people to support the project in person.

LRGS has a long tradition of giving.  As long ago as 1472, John Gardyner endowed the school in his will.  He left the profits from his watermill by the River Lune to support our school in perpetuity.  He began a tradition of philanthropy that has benefitted every generation.  Today's pupils continue to benefit from the generosity of the extended family of the school.

Since its endowment, the school has continued to grow and flourish.  Through many challenges, it has continued to serve its pupils with great confidence and ambition - and with a hugely supportive body of parents, alumni and supporters.  We hope that John Gardyner would have been proud of the impact of his legacy.

The target is to raise £75,000 in donations.  The good news is that we already have pledges from the Friends of LRGS, the Old Lancastrian Club and the Douglas Cameron Memorial Fund to help get us on our way.  We are confident that with your help we can deliver this project by September 2023.
