Our Lancaster Story
A fascinating presentation evening recently brought together key figures from business, arts, the City Council, Lancaster University and – most excitingly – the Eden Project, with their spectacular plans for Eden North. Together they painted this inspiring picture of our city:
The best of the old and the new: From Roman history to research-led investment and a growing digital economy.
Part of the northern powerhouse: a major destination on the west coast mainline between Glasgow, London and Manchester.
A royal city: from the Forest of Bowland to the historic landmarks of the Duchy of Lancaster.
A thriving cultural sector: the creative energy of Lancashire’s festival city.
Lancaster was described like this:
“A city region crossed by canals and the River Lune, perfectly situated between two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Within minutes of spectacular coastline, the open countryside of North Yorkshire and the mountains of the Lake District.”
“Characterised by fine Georgian architecture; the Queen’s Priory, Lancaster Castle, and the Ashton Memorial sitting proudly in the centre of Williamson Park. Elevated by academic excellence by not one but two universities.”
“It’s bookish, trendy, eclectic and ‘hip’ with busy bars and laid-back coffee shops alongside the traditional high street shops and high-quality independents. There’s a tolerance and neighbourliness. This is a diverse population of people with enquiring minds.”
There was an energy and excitement at that showcase event. Have a look at their fantastic video. What a great place for a school!
