Organised by NatWest bank, the Hackathon involved students spending 48 intense hours collaborating in teams made up of coders, designers, entrepreneurs and business people to create payments and related services which are socially inclusive.

The event attracted over 130 people from local universities, NatWest staff and NatWest technology partners such as Accenture, IBM, Infosys and many more.

Among the participants were Louis, Kang, Corey and Oliver from LRGS.

Martin Wilson, Head of Payments Change from Royal Bank of Scotland said:  “I am delighted to report that their diligence, hard work and energy was amazing throughout a very intensive 48 hours and was noted by many of the judges and mentors throughout the weekend. In addition, Oli and Kang teamed up with two students from Manchester University to win the prize for most innovative idea. Furthermore, the Head of Product Development for Nat West’s Commercial Bank has passed her email address to Corey and Louis as she wants to further explore their idea with a view to introducing it as a service to our customers. Bearing in mind there were over 20 teams, some of whom were significantly older, more experienced and skilled in hacking than they were, I thought you would like to know how well the school has been represented and note the tremendous achievement of the boys.”
