English Schools Chess Championships

Huge congratulations to our Chess team who represented LRGS at the English Schools Chess Championships yesterday.

The team produced an excellent performance, narrowly missing out on winning the Plate competition. They finished level on points with St Paul’s, but unfortunately lost out on countback, narrowly missing out on the trophy.

It was a particularly impressive achievement given that several players had to step up a board. The team responded brilliantly to the challenge and competed superbly throughout the event. Extra congratulations go to Surena, who was making his first appearance for the A Team and contributed valuable points on Board 6 during the opening day.

Max also delivered a standout performance, scoring four wins, one draw and just one defeat. His results included an impressive victory against Board 1 from the eventual tournament winners, QES Barnet.

Across both days, the team showed great resilience, maturity and skill. With a relatively young squad, there is plenty of reason to be excited about the future.

Finally, a huge thank you to Mr Shorrock and Mr Daykin for supporting the team during this championship.
