Plus est en vous!

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was founded by three remarkable individuals: Prince Philip (of course); Lord Hunt, who led the first successful Everest expedition; and a visionary educationalist called Kurt Hahn who had opposed the Nazis in pre-war Germany.

Kurt Hahn believed that young people possess vast untapped potential. “Plus est en vous” was his lifelong motto: There is more in you.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an amazingly successful result of his belief in the importance of fitness, initiative and service.

It is fabulous to see DofE go from strength to strength at LRGS, at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Pupils can complete DofE Awards through both the main school programme and the CCF.

They contribute many hundreds of hours of unpaid community volunteering as part of the award, as well as working for their physical and skill components.

Huge thanks to all staff and volunteers who help our pupils to work towards their DofE Awards. Best wishes to everyone on this term’s expeditions to the Lake District and Highlands. Plus est en vous!
