As a successful boys' grammar school, offering a wealth of sporting and cultural activities and state-of-the art boarding facilities, we compete effectively with many of the top independent schools and boarding schools in the UK.  

Value for money

However our fees set us apart from other schools.  As one of just 38 state boarding schools in the UK, parents at LRGS do not pay school fees for their sons' tuition.  The only fees payable are for boarding, and boarding parents  pay on average less than a third of the fees payable at independent schools (£8,000 per year). As such, we can offer tremendous value for money!

Flexible boarding to suit you

Boarding can be full time, weekly, or arranged to suit the requirements of the modern family. Approximately one third of the boarding community at LRGS are full time boarders, some from overseas. The rest of the community is made up of boys who stay some weekends but also go home regularly. The choice is left to parents in liaison with Housemasters.

Our dedicated teams of housemasters, tutors and matrons care for each boy as an individual, ensuring that wherever his talents and interests lie, he can succeed and be happy during his time at LRGS.  Many boarding parents have commented on how successful the boys' boarding school setting is for their sons, saying the 'happy yet disciplined environment' enables the boys to thrive, academically and socially.

Set in a stunning landscape

With the Lake District, Morecambe Bay and the Yorkshire Dales all just a day-trip away, ours is a safe, peaceful environment, surrounded by some of the most stunning landscapes in the country. We are little more than an hour from Manchester and Liverpool and excellent road and rail links mean that other major UK cities and airports, including Birmingham and Newcastle, are also within easy reach.
