U16 rugby match report Vs Merchant Taylor’s (19-01-19)
LRGS 5 – MTs 24
After their last meeting 12 months ago, when Lancaster were narrowly beaten and knocked out of the U15 cup the U16s were really looking forward to this game and ready for another challenge. The game got off to a slow start for Lancaster, letting two tries in against them early on without much opposition – a similar pattern to last week at MGS!. However, after this Lancaster knew they had to work much harder on the ball to create scoring opportunities. Defence was back in order and the attacking skills of Lancaster showed potential. A penalty against Lancaster after almost 10 minutes of attacking led to an easy try for Merchants as they made their way around the defence and went into half time three tries up with two conversions duly slotted. Lancaster came back out with the intention of keeping the ball away from Merchants and this was demonstrated well with safe, direct play leading to a very well deserved try. Merchants hit back with one last try and conversion to end the game as victors, however Lancaster had over 70% possession but their mistakes were taken advantage of too easily and the final score ended 24:5 to Merchant Taylor’s.
