Roger Ainsworth and Samuel Keith Heywood

It is with sadness that we share news of the deaths of two Old Lancastrians.

Roger Ainsworth

We were deeply shocked to hear of the passing of OL Roger Ainsworth (63-69), who has died after a short illness.

After leaving LRGS, Roger attended Jesus College, Oxford, where he later became an Honorary Fellow. Throughout his distinguished career, he also obtained Fellowships at the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Learned Society of Wales and St Catherine’s College, Oxford, where later he became Master of the College.

For those who wish to leave a message of sympathy, an online book of condolences is available on the St Catherine’s College website. Details of the funeral are to be announced.

Samuel Keith Heywood

It is with regret that we announce the passing of Dr Samuel Keith Heywood MBBS, MRCS, LRCP (37-44), a long standing supporter of the school who was a familiar face to many who attended OL dinners across the country.

During his time at LRGS, Dr Heywood was a Prefect, Sub-Prefect and Captain of the 1st XI from 1942-44. After leaving LRGS, he enjoyed a very successful career in medicine and later settled in Buckinghamshire.
