Applying to University

UCAS timeline

We have produced a guide for parents and students, showing the timeline for the UCAS applications process at LRGS. Please see the PDF attachment (bottom).

UCAS applications

We encourage all students to go through the process of preparing an application as valuable practice for the future, even if they then choose not to submit it this year. For a step-by-step guide to using the University Application system (UCAS) and to drafting a personal statement, see attached PDF documents (left).

UCAS widget

Please see the UCAS widget below which has been designed to give students and their parents information about higher education and the UCAS application process.

UCAS Resources for Parents

UCAS provide useful information for parents to help support students in their application. Read the UCAS Guide for Parents

University application guidance

U6 students - please look at the Results and University Places document (left).

At LRGS we offer students a carefully structured programme to prepare them for submitting applications to UCAS.

Most of this is delivered in the Thursday morning tutor period by form teachers, A great deal of general advice is given and boys start work on Personal Statements in the Summer Term of Lower Sixth, to be in a position to complete them, as well as their electronic applications, in early September of Upper Sixth.

Outside speakers give talks both to the whole year group and to targeted groups throughout the Lower Sixth. Advice is also given about such things as Gap Years and study abroad, again via form teachers and outside speakers.

Oxbridge Guidance

In addition to our general UCAS programme, we offer a full programme to assist those who may be interested in applying to Oxford or Cambridge. This includes talks by outside speakers and the opportunity to go to Open Days at Oxford or Cambridge in an accompanied group. We also offer extra help in the preparation of Personal Statements.

Careers Guidance

Sixth Form Tutors and staff advise and guide Sixth Form students through UCAS applications, including course and university choice, and voluntary work experience. There is also an experienced, independent Careers Adviser at LRGS twice a week, who meets with Sixth Form students by appointment. More information here.
