Entry requirements 

All UK applicants

The entry requirement for Year 12 (Lower Sixth) is at least six grade 6s or better in the GCSE examinations plus a minimum of grade 5 in both English Language and Mathematics.  Students need a minimum of a grade 6 in any subject to be taken to A-level.   A grade 7 (equivalent of an A) or above is required for A-level Mathematics and a grade 8 for Further Mathematics (available as a fourth A-level). Studying 4 A-levels is available to pupils who achieve grade 8 or above in five or more subjects.

The deadline for applications is 31 January 2024. Applications can be received after this date however we cannot guarantee that your subject combinations will be available. Boarding applications are processed on a first come, first served basis.  Boarding and Day applications are processed differently and are not interchangeable. 

Overseas applicants

We will accept an equivalent level of performance in your country’s exams and will require verification of results by your school. A report supporting your application from your current school will also be very important.  Please note that we can only accept overseas students who are UK passport holders or hold the EU Settlement Scheme or have a Permit to Reside.

Entrance procedures

Internal applicants

Current LRGS Year 11 students do not have to fill in an application form to join the Sixth Form at LRGS but they will be asked to complete a personal statement and attend an interview.  Their form tutors will advise and guide them through this process.  The same entry requirements apply to internal and external applicants.

External applicants

Every year we welcome up to 80 students, boys and girls, from other schools at LRGS Sixth Form.

There is no entrance exam to join the Sixth Form but you do need to complete the online application form. 

See Entry Requirements above. There are no tuition fees.

If you are from a local, or fairly local school, we will send you a conditional offer. The conditions will be, of course, your GCSE results and a satisfactory report from your current school.

After results are published in August, please contact the school and we hope to be able to confirm your place over the phone. You will then simply need to attend the Sixth Form Registration Day in early September.

Boarding applicants

We have been welcoming girls into boarding from September 2020.

If you are applying for a boarding place, we will consider your application as quickly as possible. We will ask for a reference from your current school and you will be invited to meet Headmaster Dr Pyle and to tour the boarding facilities.
