Product Design meets Roman Artefacts

Sixth Form Product Design students have been working with Tullie House Museum, Carlisle, to produce bespoke mounts to display Roman artefacts for an exhibition opening next month.

This is an exciting project which has been testing the design and production skills of students in a real life working scenario. They were all given an artefact with a design brief to construct a mount that would be capable of displaying it safely and correctly.

Many of the students have recreated their artefact using the 3D printer to assist in building a suitable stand or mount.

Dr Dot Boughton, Assistant Curator at Tullie House Museum said: "Our exhibitions team just wanted to say a huge thanks to you for all your efforts in making the mounts for our exhibition.

You can be really proud of the students: they made some really great mounts in what was very difficult circumstances – normally professionals will take exact measurements on-site or, in the very least, on the real objects, so what your students accomplished was no mean feat."

Thank you to Dr Dot Boughton, for offering this wonderful opportunity to the LRGS Design and Technology students.

The exhibition opens at Tullie House on 5 March 2022.
