Sixth Form Open Evening

All those wishing to join LRGS Sixth Form in 2012 and their parents are invited to our Open Evening on Thursday 26 January 2012, from 6-8.30pm The Headmaster will give a talk at 6pm, aimed at families new to the school, and this will be followed by subject presentations and personal consultations from 6.30-8.30pm.  The Headmaster's talk will be repeated at 7.30pm, for those who cannot make the 6pm talk.

Please come to the Assembly Hall, East Road, Lancaster for a prompt start at 6pm, so that subject presentations can get underway on time at 6.30pm. We would be grateful if new families could sign in on arrival.

In addition to finding out about A-level options at LRGS, you can discuss the range of extra-curricular opportunities, boarding at Sixth Form, sport, support for SEN, how to apply to the school, and any other subjects you may wish to discuss.

You will meet the Headmaster and deputies as well as Sixth Form subject teachers and maybe most importantly, some of our current Sixth Form students, who can tell you what life at LRGS Sixth Form is really like! Refreshments will be available throughout the evening in the School Library.

Parking will be signposted on the night.  You can also park in the side streets close to the school but may we politely ask you to park with consideration to our neighbours. Directions to LRGS.

Please note there is a timetable for the evening attached on the right.  You will also be given a copy of this when you arrive on Thursday.

Entrance procedures

External applicants

There is no entrance exam to join the Sixth Form but we will ask your current school for a report and assessment of your suitability.  Also, see Entry Requirements below.  There are no tuition fees.

Please complete a Sixth Form Application Form and return it to the Admissions Tutor at LRGS (by post to the address below) by 20 February 2012. If you are from a local, or fairly local school, we will send you a conditional offer. The conditions will be, of course, your GCSE results and a satisfactory report from your current school.

We will also invite you to attend our Induction Morning after your GCSEs are over – probably in July – when you will meet the Heads of Department of the subjects you want to take for AS, and will also be taken on a familiarisation tour by one of our Prefects. After results are published in August, please contact the school (or we will contact you) and we hope to be able to confirm your place over the phone. You will then simply need to attend the Sixth Form Registration Day in early September.

Boarding applicants

If you are applying for a boarding place, we will consider your application as quickly as possible.  We will ask for a reference from your current school and we will give you an indication of whether we think we will be able to take you.

Sixth Form boarding fees are currently £3,000 per term.  Please note that boarding places for external candidates at Sixth Form level are limited, and tend to fill up quickly, so get your application in early!  Read our boarding pages to find out more about Sixth Form boarding at LRGS.  Please contact us if you wish to visit the school and see the boarding facilities.

Entry Requirements

All UK applicants

Please note that we require a minimum of seven grade Bs at GCSE, plus a B in any subject you wish to take at AS level (an A if you want to take Maths).  We also require a minimum grade C in English and Mathematics at GCSE.  We require an A* in Maths for those wishing to take Further Maths A-level.  For new subjects not taken at GCSE (such as Business Studies and Theatre Studies) we require a B at GCSE in another subject.

Overseas applicants

We will accept an equivalent level of performance in your country’s exams and will require verification of results by your school. A report supporting your application from your current school will also be very important.  Please note that we can only accept overseas students who are UK passport holders
