Entrance procedures for 2013

External applicants

There is no entrance exam to join the Sixth Form but we will ask your current school for a report and assessment of your suitability.  Also, see Entry Requirements below.  There are no tuition fees.

Please complete a Sixth Form Application Form and return it to Mrs D Gibbon at LRGS by email or by post to the address below by 25 February 2013.  Alternatively you can now apply online.  If you are from a local, or fairly local school, we will send you a conditional offer. The conditions will be, of course, your GCSE results and a satisfactory report from your current school.

We will also invite you to attend our Induction Morning after your GCSEs are over – probably in July – when you will meet the Heads of Department of the subjects you want to take for AS, and will also be taken on a familiarisation tour by one of our Prefects. After results are published in August, please contact the school (or we will contact you) and we hope to be able to confirm your place over the phone. You will then simply need to attend the Sixth Form Registration Day in early September.

Boarding applicants

If you are applying for a boarding place, we will consider your application as quickly as possible. We will ask for a reference from your current school and we will give you an indication of whether we think we will be able to take you.

Sixth Form boarding fees are currently £3,200 per term.  Please note that boarding places for external candidates at Sixth Form level are limited, and tend to fill up quickly, so get your application in early, preferably by the deadline above.  Read our boarding pages to find out more about Sixth Form boarding at LRGS.  Please contact the Headmaster's PA if you wish to visit the boarding facilities or make a boarding application.

Entry Requirements

All UK applicants

Please note that we require a minimum of seven grade Bs at GCSE, with a B in any subject you wish to take at AS level (an A if you want to take Maths, and an A* for Further Maths).  We also expect a minimum grade C in English and Mathematics at GCSE.

Overseas applicants

We will accept an equivalent level of performance in your country’s exams and will require verification of results by your school. A report supporting your application from your current school will also be very important.  Please note that we can only accept overseas students who are UK passport holders.

Changes to A-levels modules

Since the printing of our 2013-14 Sixth Form Courses Guide, the Government has announced that there will no longer be an opportunity to take any modules ‘early’ in January, and that all exams will take place in the summer session.  All other details of the courses remain unchanged.

This change only affects Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses, which Lower Sixth pupils will start in September 2013.

The 2013-14 Sixth Form Courses Guide has now been amended (see above), to take into account these changes. Please note that paper copies of the Courses Guide that were handed out at our recent Open Evening (and prior to that) do not include these amendments.
