Lancaster Royal
Grammar School

Sixth Form

LRGS is a successful state day and boarding school, with a vibrant Sixth Form of 350 students.  As one of the top grammar schools in the country, our Sixth Form students consistently attain a high level of academic achievement.

Around three-quarters of our A-level results are at A*, A or B grade and almost all of our leavers go on to university, many of them to the most competitive institutions, including 10-12% to Oxford and Cambridge.

Our Results page gives a detailed breakdown of our most recent AS and A-level results by subject, and shows university destinations.

Our latest Ofsted inspection found that 'Attainment in the Sixth Form is well above that found nationally' and rated the school 'Outstanding' across all categories.

If you missed our Open Evening, please read our Sixth Form Prospectus for more information and please get in touch to arrange a tour.

Joining the Sixth Form

Many of our students have been with us since Year 7, but every year we welcome about  50 new students, some as boarders, from schools in Lancashire, Cumbria and further afield, directly into the Sixth Form. See our Admissions page for further details of how to join. In 2019 we will be welcoming girls and boys into our Sixth Form.

As a state boarding school, education is free for all students and we also offer affordable weekly boarding for boys at highly competitive rates.  This is a popular option and a great preparation for university life.

Coeducational from 2019

Lancaster Royal Grammar School has taken the decision to admit Sixth Form girls in September 2019. Sixth Formers will benefit from the different approaches that boys and girls bring to the classroom, providing our students with the best preparation for life beyond school.
