World famous mountaineer visits LRGS

The famous adventurer and acclaimed mountain author, Stephen Venables, will be speaking at LRGS in February.

Stephen will be speaking in honour of Steve Parr, a former pupil of LRGS, who was one of first people to successfully complete a winter ‘Bob Graham Round’, before his death during an expedition to the Himalayas.  He and Stephen Venables were contemporaries in the Oxford University Mountaineering Club.

During the lecture, Stephen will be recounting adventures from his renowned ascent of Everest via the Kangshung Face. Stephen was the first Briton to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen. He reached the summit alone, after climbing with a small American-Canadian team, by a new route up the gigantic Kangshung Face.

Don’t miss what promises to be an enthralling and very popular evening.  The talk takes place on Friday 26 February at 7pm at the Assembly Hall, Lancaster Royal Grammar School, East Road, Lancaster.  Tickets are £12 each (£10 for groups of 10 or more and £6 for 18-year-olds and under).  Book your tickets now by ringing Matthew Rose at LRGS on 01524 580600 ext 296 (9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday) or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Alternatively you can download an application form.
