LRGS pupils visit Heysham Power Station

Sixth Form students interested in pursuing a career in science and engineering recently went on tour of Heysham 2 Power Station.

They visited the reactor, turbine hall and control room and following this successful visit, there are plans to take further groups of pupils to visit the site, with a focus on students interested in university courses in business studies, as well as science and engineering.

The visits are part of the school’s employer engagement programme and specifically, our long-term relationship with British Energy, which began when the company sponsored the school’s Technology College status.  LRGS now has an employer engagement coordinator, Luci Ollerton, who is working closely with British Energy to maintain contact between the two organisations.

LRGS was cited as a good model of school-employer relations at the recent launch of the Education and Employers Taskforce in London.
