Great War drama comes to the Dukes

This year’s joint LRGS and LGGS musical production is the classic Oh! What a Lovely War, a moving, funny and lyrical evocation of the tragedy and pathos of the First World War.

oh what a lovely war logo.jpgCreated by Joan Littlewood and the Theatre Workshop in 1965, Oh! What a Lovely War is a fast-paced musical revue based on factual data from the Great War, and includes many of the songs of the period, such as Pack Up Your Troubles, Keep The Home Fires Burning and It’s A Long Way To Tipperary.   The title is derived from a musical hall song of the same name.

The show will make you laugh and make you shed a tear, with its comic and historic mix of sketches, songs, music hall and dance.  There are many sharp changes in mood but, overall, the show is designed to have a light-hearted touch and a cheerful style of presentation.

It is entirely suitable for all the family and we very much look forward to welcoming parents, students and friends of the schools' communities to our performances.
