Awesome orienteers
Congratulations to the LRGS Year 8 Orienteers who came a close second in the British Schools Orienteering Championships in Linlithgow, Scotland recently.
The qualifying runners from the Year 8 team were Jamie Rayson, Jacob Roberts and Jamie Sykes-MacLeod, all second year pupils. They had hoped to hold on to their first place position from last year but were just pipped at the post by Charleston Academy.
Other performances of note were Angus Clifford, a first year pupil, who came 8th individually in the Year 7 Boys’ class and U6 student John Ockenden who came second in the Boys’ Year 13 category.
Of the 28 boys who competed on the day, only one failed to complete his course and two boys mis-punched a control. The navigation and terrain on which they ran was challenging and the boys all did really well.
On the same day, a team from the LRGS Combined Cadet Force took part in the National Cadet Orienteering Championships at Warcop Training Area in the North Pennines. The Senior Team won their class and the Junior Team were runners up. The Senior Team runners were James Atkinson, Eddy Hall, Henry Halladay, Freddy Jones, Robert McGuirk and Richard Skinner. The Junior Team runners were Roman Bell, Patrick Collins-Price, Liam English,Thomas Manklow and Oliver Tidswell.
