Nail-biting quiz final
The Senior Quiz Team travelled to London recently to compete in the last eight of the national Schools Challenge Quiz. The format is similar to University Challenge, and this was the school’s fourth appearance in the latter stages in as many years, up against the top schools in the country.
A narrow quarter-final win against Nottingham High School (750-640) and success over KES Birmingham in the semi (790-690) set up a nail-biting final against Haberdashers’ Aske’s, Elstree.
We had a narrow lead of 30 points but the Habs’ boys got the final buzzer question for 10 points and then had three bonus questions. They answered the first two (about venues of assassinations) successfully to tie the scores at 790-790. The final (winning) question defeated them, but our captain knew it and gained the bonus for the closest possible victory 800-790.
Congratulations to Richard Hitchings (quiz-master) and the winning team: Christopher Jotischky-Hull (L6 - Captain), Jonny Hyman (U6), Max Mortimer (4th Year) and Anamay Shetty (3rd Year).
Would you have known where Spencer Perceval was killed?
