Oxford Dinner 2013
After the tremendous success of last year’s dinner at Mansfield College, the OLs returned for the 2013 Oxford Dinner. Due to work going on for a new buttery, we were moved into the Chapel for the dinner which provided an excellent setting and top notch cuisine for the 25 OLs in attendance.
Without a Branch Secretary, Joel Holmes (99-06) was MC for the evening and did an admirable job. Brian Ashton was first invited to speak and he recalled his time as Oxford coach for the Varsity match a few years ago, as well as the many tales he has from his year as President of the OL Club. It was then up to Chris Pyle, attending his first Oxford Dinner, to respond on behalf of the school, he portrayed a knowledge of Athol Murray’s History of LRGS which could only be rivalled by the retiring John Fidler – an education to the younger generation in the audience.
We do hope more OLs at Oxford or who are Oxford Alumni will be attracted to this venue in the future, it provides a great opportunity to catch up with students or return to your old University!
