London 2011 Report
The RAF Club, Piccadilly, proved once again to be the perfect setting for the OL London Branch Dinner. This year the event attracted another strong contingent of 70 OLs ranging from 2008 leavers to 1937 leavers, proving a real testament to the strength of the club and the London Branch.
Following the sublime 3 course meal, the guests were entertained by the OL President John Lea and his infamous skills as a raconteur. John drew upon tales from his LRGS teaching days and his personal views on modern technology before giving a fitting tribute to Andrew Jarman, who was attending his final London Dinner as Headmaster. I think it is safe to say that John won’t be contacting Andrew via ‘Skype’ when he turns to pastures new.
Before the guests returned to the bar there was a fantastic array of raffle prizes to be won, many of which had been generously donated by Adrian Atkinson (80-87) and his recent return from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Proceeds of the raffle were to contribute to the development of the new school Cricket Pavilion, inspiring OLs to donate generously in the hope that the magnificent Douthwaite Field will receive the facility that it truly deserves.
A wonderful evening thoroughly enjoyed by all attendees, who left the RAF Club in high spirits anticipating their return on the 8th November 2012.
