Lancaster Royal Grammar School has a long tradition of providing excellent opportunities for boys to excel academically as well as a national reputation for sporting and other achievements. This state grammar school of around 1000 boys aged 11 – 18, including 200 boarders and a thriving sixth form of 300, achieves consistently high academic standards whilst providing a caring ethos in all aspects of school life, supported by a strong and effective pastoral system.

The school has an enviable academic record, frequently achieving the best A-level and GCSE results for any state school in the North of England. In 2009, 96.7% of GCSEs were grades A* to C and 76.8% of all A-level entries achieved one of the top two grades. As a result, pupils secured places at the very best universities, including 18 at Oxbridge colleges.
